Chapter 1. Food Research and Experimental Process

At first, I found it a bit confusing on writing a proposal and report because I was the first time to explore research writing. I found it was very complicated as I didn't know that the introduction of a research is comprised of many elements such as problem statements, current trends, purpose, dependent & independent variables, specific methods that can be repeated for future study and specific statistics to analyze the accuracy and precision of the data. Until I entered this chapter, I learned so much and when I looked back to my practical reports that I had done before this, I think my previous reports were too simple, unspecified and unprofessional. 😂

Luckily I early downloaded all the docs from times, if not I cannot find the extra articles updated now.

In Chapter 1 Food Research and Experimental, is about the steps of food research process, how to design a study, how to implement it and how to obtain valid data. What I know from this chapter is when we plan to conduct a food research or experiment, we have to identify the problems by various observations and readings to aid, defining a clearly stated purpose of the study and specific hypothesis and then we have to gather all the background information for the topic. The difficulties or challenges that I faced during the lecture is I hardly and fully understand about the theory about it, so I read the examples and journal samples that provided by Ms Tracy and compared with the lecture notes. In addition, to understand more about chapter 1, I had printed out all the journal from times portal and bound together, I understand clearer because it is like reading the example of research and always relate it to what I learnt in chapter 1. It helps me to understand more about it.😁 

I have learnt that it is important to identify the purpose of a research through readings and observations in the surrounding's news when doing proposal or whatever research. So, I should pay attention to or be more observant as well as be alert to the surrounding's news to have more knowledge and know what happens in the surrounding. 💪By reading journals or articles and also keep attention on the current trends, I will have more ideas on writing the proposal including, objectives, hypothesis, research gaps.

However, I feel like it's a pity that the lecture on chapter 1 was carried after the briefing on the proposal of the assignment as I am not really prepared and readied myself to write a proposal.😓 I hope that this class can do before the assignment briefing so that I can know what to focus on.

Lastly, this topic is very helpful for me because of the research process or research study design and planning are not only just applicable to the research for Experimental Food Products & Practices this subject. I can implement what I have learnt from this chapter into the assignments, practical reports, final year project for other subjects in the future. I think the knowledge and the research writing skills  ( and also the useful phrases provided) that I have learned in this chapter will benefit my future careers as I will involve in planning experiments or research in the future and I can refer to this lecture notes as my guideline.
